All hail the king of 4K HDR, but how well does it hold up as an AirPlay second screen for your Mac?... #AirPlayLag BUY NOW Apple TV 4K: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=apple+tv Chromecast: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=chromecast REVIEW The Apple TV 4K is a beautiful unit, packed with an iPad Pro processor, and featuring support for AC Wifi, wi-mote style functionality and 4K HDR content, it turns your TV into a tvOS entertainment console. However for me, the one important feature that stood out for Apple TV is its support for AirPlay. Unfortunately, while modern TVs support standards such as Miracast, Apple requires an AirPlay enabled device, so in order to get your iOS or macOS content on the TV, you'd either need a newly released 2019 special edition TV worth thousands or one of these little puppies. Regarding AirPlay performance, testing over AC Wifi, performance was seamless but too chopping for video streaming. Furthermore even though its a 4K device, AirPlay is limited to 1080p. Note, more performance could be achieved by plugging the Apple TV directly into a network router using the ethernet connection, however my tests were limited to Wifi. Overall, it's a beautiful little tiny device, which is cute to look at and has a cure OS to play with, but for the purpose of AirPlay it's a little disappointing.
