However, most power banks only deliver at most 18-30W of charge. Cygnett have two award winning power banks which range between 45W and 60W power delivery. This is a good range to extend the battery life of a 15" MacBook Pro as they can both manage to charge the laptop while using it. However, when you start to use it harder, having the 60W model does help. When no apps are being used, the 45W bank can charge the 15" MacBook Pro with 20W, and the 60W edition can push 30W of juice. When using a demanding app like Final Cut Pro, the 45W model needs all the juice it can get to power the application leaving no charge left to charge the battery in the MacBook Pro. However, the 60W model can still charge the Mac with 17W of power while the app is being used. Using a graphically demanding app or game like Unigen's Heaven benchmark, the 45W bank can't fully power the Mac and the Mac will have to utilise it's internal battery to keep up with the demand. However, the 60W bank can still charge the laptop at 5W while the graphics card is being being utilized at 100%. Finally, for CPU intensive applications, it doesn't get more demanding than Cinebench, which is a battery life killer. One run of that benchmark drops 2% of charge every run. When the 60W bank is plugged in, while it isn't able to provide the juice to stop the laptop use the internal battery, it does half the power demand from the Mac's internal battery. OVERALL The 60W edition is slightly thicker and heavier than the 45W edition, but having that extra 15W of power does really help being able to charge your Mac even when using a pretty demanding app such as Final Cut Pro.
