I remember when I was trying to figure out the RAM options for my new Classic Mac, I would zoom into all the videos I could find on YouTube to screenshot what ram modules was being used out there so in this video I'm going to try to be as descriptive as possible for my choices to hopefully help anyone else out there upgrading their Mac for the first time. WHERE TO BUY PC3-10600E RAM: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=PC3-10600E+RAM Mac Pro: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=mac+pro+2010 Officially the single CPU Mac Pro 5,1 supports upto 16GB, but unofficially you can go up to 48gb and if you have a dual cpu 128gb. It requires PC3-10600E, 1333 MHz, DDR3 SDRAM UDIMMs, 72-bit wide, 240-pin. - The E stands for Error Correcting Code, but unofficially you can get R versions too. I personally went for 32gb of Hynix branded memory which consisted of 4 8GB 2RX4 ECC registered memory modules. Primarily, because I found a good deal on eBay for around $100. ECC Registered memory is donated with 10600R instead of 10600E. 2RX4 is the memory rank. So when buying memory make sure you get the same ECC type and rank type for all your modules as mixing and matching can cause issues. I've had my setup for half a year now and haven't noticed any problems with the RAM so I'm happy to recommend it. I also managed to sell off my original RAM sticks for about half the price, so upgrading for me was a good deal. The upgrade process was very very simple, just open up the case using the latch. Pull out the CPU tray using its latch. Pull the latches around the current installed ram to pop them out one by one. Insert the new modules. Slot the CPU tray back in. Fire up the computer to make sure it boots ok, if it does you should be good to close up the case.
