Alright first up, unfortunately you can't just install a Time Machine backup of a Mac that has High Sierra (before you've updated your firmware). I tried that, and while the installer does let you do it, you'll end up with a Mac that doesn't boot. While that's doing that, head to https://macdaddy.io/install-disk-crea... and download the disk creator utility. You'll need a USB drive to use as the installer. In the Disk Creator app just select the USB as the target and the MacOS High Sierra Installer.app as the installer and wait while it copies over the files. Plug in the USB into the Mac Pro, and hold down the alt key after powering it on. Once you get to the boot selector screen select the USB installer. In the installer, it'll tell you that you need to install a firmware patch for the Mac Pro. To do that, you need to shut down the Mac - unfortunately for me none of the menus worked, so I had to do a hard shutdown by holding on to the power button. To install the firmware patch, hold down and keep hold of the power button until you hear the only PC speaker style beep. The first time I did this it didn't work, so I took off all my USBs and tried again. You should see an apple logo and a progress upgrade screen. Note the progress update doesn't go all the way, so don't be scared when your Mac shuts off at the 90% mark. Now the firmware is installed, start up your Mac holding down the alt key and selecting the USB installer. It'll then let you go ahead and install High Sierra. You can even restore a Time Machine backup of your MacBook Pro - though this took a good 12 hours for me. And that's it your Mac Pro is now living the High life. FILMING TOOLS http://vtudio.com/tools
